The San Antonio-New Braunfels metro area ranks 11th in the nation as a hotspot for veteran entrepreneurs in a new study by Pentagon Federal Credit Union.
Indeed, only one Texas city is more friendly to vets looking to start businesses, according to the report.
To determine the rankings, researchers evaluated data from nearly 400 U.S. metros to determine their livability, veteran support systems, economic growth and friendliness to new businesses.
Houston landed at No. 10, just ahead of the Alamo City, while Dallas ranked 12th and Austin 14th.
San Antonio’s strongest category was its strength as a place to start a business, according to researchers. The study cites Utah-based Black Rifle Coffee, the nation’s third-largest veteran-founded company, as contributing to the Alamo City’s ranking. The coffee chain maintains some of its operations in the Alamo City.
Texas’ lack of a state corporate income tax is another likely contributor to San Antonio’s high placement on the list and the presence of three of the state’s other big metros in the top 20.
Raleigh, North Carolina, led the pack at No. 1, according to the study. It’s followed by Washington, D.C.; Seattle; Cleveland; and Fayetteville, Arkansas, in respective order.
Consulting firm Edelman Data & Intelligence helped compile data for the study.
