The San Antonio man charged with murder over the shooting death of King of the Hill voice actor Jonathan Joss has posted bond and is in the process of being released, Bexar County court records show.

Sigfredo Ceja Alvarez, 56, posted a $200,000 bond Tuesday. Once released, he will be under full house arrest, subject to random drug testing and prohibited from possessing firearms.

Alvarez is accused of shooting Joss, who is best known as voicing King of the Hill character John Redcorn, during a confrontation in front of the actor’s South Side home on Sunday.

According to a police report, a friend had driven Joss and his husband, Tristan Kern de Gonzales, from Austin to San Antonio to check the mail at their residence in the 200 block of Dorsey Drive. The structure had sustained serious damage in a January fire.

While Joss was collecting his mail, Alvarez pulled up in his vehicle and began arguing with Joss, according to a police report obtained by the Current.

Alvarez then shot Joss, killing him, the report alleges.

Joss’ neighbors told KSAT that the actor had an ongoing dispute with Alvarez, who lived down the street.

In a Monday Facebook post, Joss’ husband suggested the shooting was an anti-gay hate crime. He alleged the couple had faced harassment while living in the house and maintains Alvarez used homophobic remarks as he approached them Sunday.

However, SAPD said no evidence so far suggests the killing is a hate crime.

“We take such allegations very seriously and have thoroughly reviewed all available information,” SAPD said in a statement. “Should any new evidence come to light, we will charge the suspect accordingly.”
