Former San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg and his team are getting creative with social media outreach as he campaigns for Bexar County Judge.
Early this month, Nirenberg brought back ‘Ask Ron!,’ a forum used during his mayoral campaigns, in which he answers questions from voters in real time via a Facebook livestream.
Since relaunching the feature on Jan. 6, Bexar County voters have asked Nirenberg questions about ICE enforcement, his stance on city-county consolidation and whether he prefers Burger King or Fred’s Fish Fry.
“We’re still kind of playing with the format,” Nirenberg campaign manager Laura Barberena told the Current. “We just monitor the questions and feed them to him as we go along.”
The campaign plans to hold “Ask Ron!” sessions every Tuesday at 9 p.m. through the March 3 Democratic primary. That’s when voters will decide whether Nirenberg or incumbent Bexar County Judge Peter Sakai will head to the general election.
However, before then, the two are set to square off in a debate at 7 p.m. Feb. 10 at Stable Hall. Registration to attend is available online.
