The San Antonio Police Department is seeking public’s help in identifying a suspect who allegedly strangled a kitten to death at a Southwest side apartment complex Sunday.
The suspect, who was wearing a red hoodie, was caught in the act by a neighbor’s surveillance camera, according to San Antonio police. In the footage, the suspect appears to chase and catch a kitten taking its life, an SAPD Facebook post states.
Neighbors told KSAT the kitten was one of a group of strays living at the building on Yarrow Boulevard. Residents often leave food and water out for the homeless felines, they said.
Police encourage those with information on the suspect to contact the San Antonio Property Crimes Task Force at (210) 207-8326.
The cat strangling is the latest instance of animal abuse in San Antonio to grab headlines.
In September, a woman who was caught on camera striking a puppy multiple times, sparking outrage, accepted a plea deal in relation to her animal cruelty charges.
In another instance, a man was spotted throwing a cage of kittens off a bridge in 2020. Although Animal Care Services launched an investigation into the matter, the culprit was never charged.
