Five people are hospitalized, three in critical condition, after a pair of explosions rocked a North San Antonio neighborhood overnight, according to media reports. Ten families have since been evacuated from the area.

San Antonio police arrived at the 15000 block of Preston Hollow Drive around 6 p.m. Tuesday after receiving reports of a home exploding, according to the San Antonio Report.

Two hours later, while responders were still on scene, a second explosion sent debris flying and inflicted heavy damage to multiple homes in the area, according to the online publication.

Five people were transported to University Hospital following the explosions. Of those hospitalized, three — including a child — are in critical condition, KSAT reports.

Ten homes were evacuated following the second explosion, and authorities subsequently cut off utilities to the neighborhood, according to the Report.

CPS Energy crews located and capped a gas leak overnight, according to officials with the city-owned power company, but that the cause of the explosions remains under investigation.

In a video message tweeted out shortly before midnight, Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones said the North East Side Senior Center is open to people left unhoused by the evacuations, along with those who feel uncomfortable staying in their homes.

Meanwhile, District 10 Councilman Marc Whyte, whose district includes the neighborhood where the blasts occurred, issued a statement saying his office is monitoring the situation and is in constant contact with the San Antonio Fire Department and city staff.

“Please do not hesitate to contact our office if you are affected,” Whyte said.

This is a developing story.
