Bexar County Court at Law 13 Judge Rosie Speedlin Gonzalez has been suspended without pay a week after she was indicted on charges of oppression and unlawful restraint, KSAT 12 reports.
Speedlin Gonzalez will be suspended from the bench until the charges are dismissed, she’s acquitted or until the commission issues another order, according to an order from the State Commission on Judicial Conduct obtained by the TV station.
Last week’s indictment stems from a 2024 courtroom argument that allegedly ended with Speedlin Gonzalez ordering a defense attorney handcuffed, the Express-News reports. The judge’s attorney Mark Stevens told the daily she’s innocent of the charges.
Speedlin Gonzalez heard court cases this week, according to KSAT.
In addition to serving as a court at law judge, Speedlin Gonzalez also oversees the county’s Reflejo Court for first-time domestic violence offenders.
County officials haven’t said who will preside in her absence, KSAT reports.
