Air Canada will launch nonstop flight service from San Antonio International Airport to Ontario’s Toronto Pearson International Airport next spring, city officials said Monday.

Starting in May, Air Canada will operate the service three times weekly on Airbus A220 aircraft. The airline last operated out of San Antonio in 2019.

The San Antonio departures will take place every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday with flights taking off at 10:30 a.m. and landing in Toronto at approximately 3:07 p.m.

Canadian departures to San Antonio will take place every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 6:20 p.m. with arrivals at approximately 9 p.m.

San Antonio Director of Airports Jesus Saenz said in an emailed statement that the new flights are the result of local aviation officials advocating for nonstop flights from Air Canada.

The new route is only the 10th international nonstop flight for San Antonio International, and the other nine connect to destinations in Mexico. The airport’s first direct European route, which flew to Frankfurt, Germany, ended late last year when discount carrier Condor discontinued it in the wake of a court ruling.
