A 14-year-old girl is in custody for assaulting a security guard after a fight between multiple youths broke out at Callaghan Ballroom’s “Teen Night” on Friday, officials with the San Antonio Police Department confirmed.
Videos began circulating on social media over the weekend of chaos outside Callaghan Ballroom, 1400 Callaghan Road, as hundreds of teenagers took to the parking lot and engaging in a raucous party. In one TikTok clip, a gaggle of teens is seen running from an SAPD vehicle.
In another clip, a youth tells a concerned adult that somebody “started shooting” and that another person threatened to set people on fire.
In a statement to the Current, SAPD officials confirmed that a fight broke out at the Callaghan Ballroom and a security guard working the event tried to disperse the crowd.
The 14-year-old arrested Friday night is accused punching that same security guard in the face, and the security guard responded by pepper-spraying the girl, police said in their report. The suspect’s mother later picked her up, but she was identified in a video and arrested for assault of a security officer, a third-degree felony, according to the document.
After the suspect’s arrest, she was taken to the Bexar County Juvenile Detention Center.
Garcia Event Center, which owns and operates the Callaghan Ballroom, didn’t immediately respond to the Current’s request for comment about whether the business plans to hold more teen nights in the future.
