The City of San Antonio Neighborhood and Housing Services Department (NHSD) and the Fair Housing Coalition of South Texas are hosting a free session this week to inform renters of their legal rights.
The discussion will take place from 5:30-7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 22, at the Walker Ranch Senior Center, 835 West Rhapsody Drive. It will cover eviction, repairs, fair housing, renting responsibility and other important issues, organizers said.
Fair housing counselors from NHSD, code enforcement officials from the city’s Development Services Department and staff from the Fair Housing Coalition of South Texas will be available to answer questions and schedule follow-up appointments.
The information session comes as a housing affordability crisis continues to wreak havoc in Bexar County and beyond.
In 2024, Bexar County landlords evicted 14,850 families from their homes, Express-News reports. Those evictions came as rent in San Antonio has increased significantly since the COVID-19 pandemic.
