University Health and Bexar County will offer free drive-thru flu vaccinations at four September and October events as medical experts warn they expect a rough flu season.
Adults and children 6 months and older can receive the vaccinations without leaving the vehicles in which they arrive, according to University Health officials. Advance registration is required, however.
“We are preparing for a particularly aggressive flu season,” University Health Vice President of Community and Population Health Strategy Dr. Leo Lopez III said. “The flu vaccine is the best tool to help prevent severe illness and lower your risk of hospitalization.”
The first vaccination event will take place Saturday, Sept. 12, at Bexar County’s satellite office, 3505 Pleasanton Road. Additional events are scheduled for Sept. 19 at Freeman Coliseum, 3201 E. Houston St.; Oct. 3 at Gustafson Stadium, 7001 Culebra Road; and Oct. 10 at Dub Farris Athletic Complex, 8400 N. Loop 1604 W. All events will run from 8 a.m.-noon.

Lopez also urged residents to help curb the spread of influenza by staying home when sick, covering coughs and sneezes, washing hands frequently and cleaning commonly touched surfaces.
