“Success would be getting into the playoffs and not the play-in,” Spurs Center Victor Wembanyama recently told reporters.

Spurs forward Victor Wembanyama could be out the rest of the Western Conference quarterfinals after slamming his head against the floor during the team’s 103-106 loss Tuesday to the Trail Blazers.

Under NBA guidelines, a player in concussion protocol must have at least 48 hours of inactivity and recovery time, and they also must hit several benchmarks before being cleared to play. Some of those benchmarks include neurological testing and receiving clearance from the league’s concussion protocol director.

Wemby fell face-first onto the Frost Bank Center’s floor during the second quarter as he attempted a spin move while driving to the basket against Trail Blazers guard Jrue Holiday.

When asked after the game if Wembanyama was being evaluated for any other injury other than a concussion, Spurs head coach Mitch Johnson responded by saying “no.”

“He has a concussion, he’s in the protocol, and we’ll obviously take the proper and appropriate steps,” Johnson said.

The average recovery time for concussed players in the NBA is seven to 10 days.

The Spurs will next take on the Trail Blazers in Portland at 9:30 p.m. local time this Friday.
