TNT sports commentator Charles Barkley has taken another jab at San Antonio residents over their waistlines.
Barkley’s latest slam followed the Spurs’ stunning 128-115 win on Tuesday over the Utah Jazz. During the game, 7-foot-4 phenom Victor Wembanyama led the Silver and Black to victory, racking up 34 points and seven rebounds.
Barkley seemed more impressed with Wemby’s slender figure than his stellar performance, though.
“Shaq, you know what’s weird about Wemby? He’s, like, the only person in San Antonio that can’t gain weight,” Barkley said during the NBA on TNT’s post-game broadcast.
Barkley’s joke drew boisterous laughs from his cohosts, including commentator Ernie Johnson Jr.
“I will give you credit for that,” Johnson replied.
Barkley continued: “I don’t understand why this the only skinny person in San Antonio.”
Barkley’s comments are just the latest in an ongoing routine where former NBA star, who’s not exactly a beanpole himself, mocks the girth of Alamo City residents.
While Barkley’s remarks about Wembanyama drew guffaws, they’re not exactly accurate. Bleacher Report wrote in September that Wemby gained 25 pounds since last season and now weighs in at 235 pounds.
Next up, the Spurs will next take on the Los Angeles Lakers at home on Wednesday. Tipoff is at 7:30 p.m. CST, and the game will air on Spectrum SportsNet and NBA League Pass.
