A San Antonio police officer was arrested Monday and charged with misdemeanor family assault, department officials said.

Officer Grant Ruedemann turned himself in to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office after the District Attorney’s Office issued an arrest warrant for an off-duty incident that occurred in May 2023, according to details released by SAPD.

SAPD is now conducting both a criminal and administrative investigation of Ruedemann, a 15-year department veteran who works on its Bike Patrol Unit, department officials said. He’s now on administrative duty.

While the department didn’t share details of the alleged family assault, KSAT reports that police documents accuse Ruedemann of throwing a glass cup into his wife’s face after the pair got into an argument.

The wife told officers she suffered “redness, swelling, bruising and a permanent dimple” as a result of the purported assault, according to the TV station.

Ruedemann is the fifth SAPD officer arrested this year, according to records released by the department.
