An off-duty San Antonio police officer is under investigation for suspicion of drunk driving following a single-vehicle crash, KSAT reports, citing details from a Bexar County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) incident report and a blood-draw warrant.

Around 4 p.m. Tuesday, Bexar County sheriff’s deputies responded to a report that a vehicle driven by David McCall, a 17-year SAPD veteran, plowed into the front yard of a house on the 3400 block of Coryell Cove in far West Bexar County, according to KSAT.

McCall, 58, was conscious but struggling to breathe, and he proved “unresponsive” to attempts to communicate, the TV station reports, citing BCSO documents.

As paramedics attended to the man’s injuries, deputies discovered a six-pack of beer and an unopened bottle of wine in the vehicle, according to KSAT. BCSO personnel followed the ambulance that transported McCall to the hospital.

After nurses attending to McCall smelled alcohol on his breath, a sheriff’s department investigator sought a warrant for a blood draw, according to the TV station. The results are reportedly pending as of Wednesday afternoon.

While McCall hasn’t been charged with a crime, SAPD officials told KSAT he’s on administrative duty while administrative affairs personnel conduct an investigation.

The investigation follows roughly a week after SAPD personnel arrested officer Paul Fencik, an 18-year force veteran, on suspicion that he drove on the job while intoxicated.

Officers took Fencik into custody last Thursday at the South Patrol Substation where he works, according to details shared by the department. Department officials said they’re conducting both criminal and administrative investigations into the matter.
