The San Antonio Zoo is offering a waffle-flight special at its Longnecks Bar & Grill this month in celebration of the addition of a new spotted resident.

On Friday, the zoo welcomed Waffles the giraffe to its Naylor Savanna exhibit. In celebration of the year-old animal’s addition, the park’s Longneck Bar & Grill is offering guests a commemorative waffle flight all day long through Dec. 31.

Waffle’s arrival at the San Antonio Zoo is a big deal since Reticulated giraffes, found in East Africa, are quickly disappearing. Indeed, the International Union for Conservation and Nature is expected to list two species of giraffes, including Reticulated giraffes, as threatened later this year, according to zoo officials.

“Waffles’ arrival is a moment for celebration at the zoo, and the next step in building our herd for future breeding,” San Antonio Zoo CEO Tim Morrow said in a statement. “She represents our continued commitment to conservation while offering a special opportunity for the community to get closer to one of the most iconic species on Earth. We can’t wait for guests to come out and welcome her into her new home.”

Waffles’ relocation to the San Antonio Zoo is part of the Species Survival Plan, a collaborative conservation initiative run by the Association of Zoos & Aquariums, which aims to save threatened and endangered species from extinction.
