In an era where screens seem to have all but replaced face-to-face interaction, the Esperanza Peace and Justice Center has repeatedly stepped up to fill the void.
The center cultivates personal connections and real-life experiences, fosters community pride and encourages the exchange of intergenerational knowledge.
The center’s Esperanza Series, which debuts this weekend, is designed to do all of the above, combating the isolation that defines the information age.
This two-day series set in two iconic venues includes an array of music, visual art and talks featuring singer-songwriter Azul Barrientos, the Agarita Chamber Ensemble, visual artist Mauro de la Tierra and activist Rebecca Flores.
Day one takes place at the University of Texas at San Antonio’s downtown campus, with day two moving to historic venue Lerma’s Nite Club on the near West Side.
