Well, shit.

Texans are in possession of the nation’s worst potty mouths, according to a new study. What’s more, we love to trot out the brown word when struck by the mood to curse, the research shows.

The report, released by casino review site BonusFinder.com, is based on an analysis of the top “hot” posts for key state subreddit pages. To get the rankings, researchers parsed the number of cuss words used per post in each state. They also tallied each state’s favorite naughty words using the posts.

Texas came in at No. 1 with 6.9 cuss words per post — or 4,743 sprinkled through 691 posts. Ohio followed close behind with 6.7 foul words per post, while Florida landed at third with 6.5.

“Shit” accounted for one in five of the bad words contained in Lone Star State subreddit posts, making it Texans’ favorite swear.

While Texans’ proclivity for spewing profanity is exceptional, their choice of favorite naughty word is anything but, according to researchers. A total of 48 states share that same favorite dirty word. The exceptions are Colorado, which favors “fucking,” and California, where “hell” reigns.

Which state’s residents were least likely to swear on Reddit? Why, that would be California, where people averaged 0.2 naughty words per post.

However, we’re guessing Cali residents’ aversion to bad language only extends to Reddit. We’ve been around plenty in the flesh, and they’re just as likely to drop the F-bomb as anyone else.
