Dallas-area U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett is making moves for a potential Senate run, including meeting with a potential campaign manager and throwing cash behind polling and data, Politico reports.

Crockett told the online publication she’s “seriously weighing” a run for U.S. Sen. John Cornyn’s seat despite an already-crowded primary field for Democrats that includes State Rep. James Talarico and former U.S. Rep. Colin Allred, a fellow North Texan.

“I am seriously weighing it, to the extent that I’m about to spend a lot of money to get data,” Crockett told Politico.

Known for epic on-camera takedowns against conservative firebrands including U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-GA, as well as President Donald Trump and Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, Crockett has emerged as a Democratic rising star even though she’s only served in Congress since 2023.

Crockett said she wants to be known for her fighting spirit, but added that it’s important to fight the right people and for the right reasons.

“We don’t necessarily need all this machismo directed at some of the most vulnerable people,” Crockett told Politico. “What we need is people that are going to be strong and fight for the most vulnerable amongst us. And I think that that is the brand that I have set out for myself, is that I want to fight for the American dream.”

Crockett’s elevated media profile has led to buzz around her as a potential Senate contender, especially in the wake of Texas Republicans’ newly redrawn political maps, which target her Dallas district, among others.

Though she hasn’t even announced yet, Crockett is leading in the primary race, according to one recent poll.

The survey, first obtained by right-wing media outlet The Daily Caller, was conducted by the National Republican Senatorial Committee of 566 likely Democratic primary voters from July 4-7.

The poll shows Crockett leading the pack at 35% compared to Allred’s 20% and hypothetical candidates Beto O’Rourke and U.S. Rep. Joaquin Castro, both of whom pulled 13%. However, the poll doesn’t include Talarico, who appears to be in strong shape at the moment, far outraising both Allred and Cornyn within just a few weeks of announcing.

Like other Democrats who smell blood in the water at the possibility of scandal-plagued Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton winning the Republican primary, Crockett sees more of a chance of beating Paxton than firmly entrenched incumbent Cornyn.

“I’m going to be flat out with you and tell you that I don’t think that there’s a Democrat that can take out Cornyn,” Crockett told Politico. “For me, I would be making a very last-minute decision [jumping in the race], because it’s not just about winning the primary. You gotta win the general.”
