State Rep. James Talarico’s U.S. Senate campaign said Wednesday that it raised more than $27 million in the first quarter of 2026, the largest haul ever by an upper-chamber candidate in the first quarter of an election year.

“Grassroots contributors from almost every county in Texas are sending Washington, D.C., a clear message: they’re tired of this broken, corrupt political system and they’re ready to take back Texas for working people,” Talarico said in a statement. “We’re bringing Democrats, Republicans and Independents together to end billionaire control over politics and bring down costs for families across our state.”

The Austin Democrat’s camp said 97% of contributions to its campaign were $100 or less, many coming from people such as farmers, ranchers, oil workers, nurses and firefighters.

The sum brings Talarico’s total fundraising to more than $40 million since launching his U.S. Senate bid in September.

“Winning in Texas will require unprecedented resources,” Talarico for Texas campaign manager Seth Krasne said in a statement. “The grassroots fundraising haul puts our movement in a strong position to spread our message in some of the most expensive media markets in the country.”

Talarico defeated Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett by 6% in last month’s Democratic primary. He will take on either U.S. Sen. John Cornyn or Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton in the general, depending on which survives the GOP runoff.
