San Antonio-based personal injury attorney Thomas J. Henry over the weekend said he donated $2 million to help Democrats James Talarico and Gina Hinojosa get elected.

That influx of cash from Henry to the U.S. Senate and Texas gubernatorial candidates appears to be a turnaround from his past support for Republicans. Indeed, Henry donated more than $600,000 to the Lone Star Liberty PAC to boost Ken Paxton’s GOP primary campaign against incumbent U.S. Sen. John Cornyn.

However, Henry recently said he’s had a change of heart, in part due to the numerous scandals that have dogged Paxton’s campaign. The attorney formally endorsed Talarico late last month in a social media video.

The donation announced this weekend signals that Henry has also pulled his support from Gov. Greg Abbott.

Specifically, Henry donated $1 million to the Lone Star Rising PAC in support of Talarico and $1 million directly to Hinojosa’s campaign. While individuals can’t donate more than $3,500 to a federal candidate, there’s no limit on how much someone can donate to a Texas gubernatorial candidate’s campaign.

“I want the people of Texas to have the best opportunity for their future,” Henry said.

Talarico and Hinojosa, who rallied together in San Antonio on Sunday, are in tight races against Paxton and Abbott.

RealClearPolitics’ aggregate polling has Talarico leading Paxton by 2.5 points. Meanwhile, the political polling and analysis news site’s aggregate polling has Abbott leading Hinojosa by 3.5 points.

Polls will operate 7 a.m.-7 p.m. on Election Day this Tuesday. Information about polling places is available at the Bexar County Elections Department website.
