San Antonio Teen Filmmaker Wins International Competition

San Antonio is on the up, y'all.

After the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) named the 210 as a Creative City of Gastronomy earlier this week, the international recognition continues to pour in.

Fatima Aguillon, a student of the Film School of San Antonio at Harlandale High School, earned the winning spot in an international video production competition hosted by Organizations of World Heritage Cities (OWHC). In case you didn't know, the missions throughout San Antonio are considered World Heritage sites. The competition sought to highlight these sites and cities through a "My City, Our World Heritage" theme.

Aguillon beat out 15 other entries from 13 other countries in the 14-17 age bracket. Her film was shown during an OWHC event in Korea on Wednesday. Aside from extreme bragging rights, Aguillon's win also landed her a $1,000 cash prize.

“Not only does Fatima’s film convey a love for her hometown, but it also shows her incredible talent for storytelling through film,” said Mayor Ron Nirenberg via press release. “There is no doubt that San Antonio and its stories are in good hands moving into the future, with a young talent like Fatima leading the way.”
