Three Star Bar is being haunted by international Halloween pop-up Black Lagoon, which offers creepy cocktails in a spooky setting.

The Black Lagoon takeover, which the Current originally reported on in July, is already underway and running through Oct. 31. Three Star Bar is located at 521 E. Grayson St.

Drinks on the pop-up’s menu include Nosferatu’s Rise, featuring coconut-washed whiskey and Amontillado sherry, the latter a nod to Edgar Allan Poe’s horror classic “The Cask of Amontillado.” Then there’s the Hex Appeal, which casts its spell with a potion of gin and absinthe.

A couple of the drinks are served in creepy tiki mugs, also available for purchase at the Black Lagoon. These include the Nightmare Fuel, a green concoction composed of tequila, matcha and lime served up in a tiki dragon. The Siren Song, prepared with whiskey, rum and pineapple liqueur, is a tropical tipple served in a macabre mermaid mug.

Other on-theme drinks include Witching Hour, Memento Mori, Bloodlust, Paranoia and Psychosis.

Though the menu has temporarily changed, the mixologists have not. Three Star Bar’s regular bartenders are still the ones serving up drinks, though they might be hard to recognize in costume.

Black Lagoon’s decor also conjures the macabre with smoke machines, lasers and ghoulish purple lighting. What’s more, a special playlist sets the mood with a mix of goth, metal and punk. (Yes, the Misfits are on it, duh.)

The Black Lagoon pop-up is occurring simultaneously in 35 bars throughout the U.S., Canada and Mexico. The project is overseen by bar-industry veterans Erin Hayes and Kelsey Ramage, who decided to take their act on the road in 2021 after a successful Halloween pop-up in New Orleans.

Merchandise and playlists are available at the pop-up’s website.
