New poll: Ted Cruz, Colin Allred locked in dead heat as election approaches

With the election just two weeks away, a new poll shows Republican U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, and Democratic challenger U.S. Rep. Colin Allred in a dead heat to represent Texas in the upper chamber.

New numbers from Emerson College Polling/The Hill put Cruz a single point ahead of Allred with likely voters, which is inside the poll’s 3.4% margin of error. The two-term incumbent leads 48% to 47%, while 5% remain undecided. The new survey results show a tighter race than in September, when Emerson and The Hill showed Cruz ahead by 4 points.

Texas is one of two states Democrats have targeted in their bid to retain narrow control of the Senate. Last week, the Democratic National Committee trumpeted a “six-figure paid media investment” urging Texas Latinos to support Allred.

On Friday, Vice President Kamala Harris will campaign in Houston with Allred, marking their first joint appearance, the Texas Tribune reports. The event, which comes as both presidential campaigns focus on battleground states, suggests Dems continue see the unpopular Cruz‘s Senate seat as flippable.
