Jonathan Joss, a San Antonio actor known for roles in the TV shows King Of The Hill and Parks and Recreation, was shot and killed Sunday at his South Side home, KSAT reports, citing police records and two people familiar with the incident.
The shooting happened just after 7 p.m. on the 200 block of Dorsey Drive near Pleasanton Road, according to the TV station.
Although KSAT said the cause of the shooting is unclear, gossip site TMZ reports that San Antonio police and eyewitnesses said the 59-year-old actor got into a “heated argument” with a neighbor before the neighbor pulled out a gun and fired several times.
Paramedics attempted to save Joss’ life but were unsuccessful, according to both KSAT and TMZ.
Officers picked up Sigfredo Ceja Alvarez and transported him to police headquarters for questioning about the shooting, KSAT reported in an update to its original story. The 56-year-old was later arrested on a murder charge, and an investigation is ongoing, authorities told the station.
San Antonio-born Joss was primarily known for voicing the character John Redcorn in the animated series King of the Hill in 13 of its seasons but its first. He also played the recurring roles of Chief Ken Hotate in hit comedy series Parks and Recreation and Bad Face in streaming series Tulsa King.
In addition to his TV work, Joss landed brief roles in movies including the Coen Brothers’ True Grit and the 2016 remake of the Magnificent Seven. He also lent his voice to video games including Red Dead Redemption and Cyberpunk 2077.
Joss attended McCollum High School. After leaving Texas State University due to poor grades, he enrolled in Our Lady of the Lake University, where he graduated with a degree in theater and speech.
The actor has told multiple media outlets that he’s of Comanche and White Mountain Apache ancestry. He primarily portrayed Native American characters in his TV and film roles.
In January, Joss’ South Side home suffered serious damage in a fire that occurred while he was staying in a hotel to keep warm. His dogs perished in the blaze.
Joss’ father built the house in 1957, KSAT reported at the time. The actor continued to live in the home even as he traveled to Hollywood and beyond for acting roles.
