Take a hike! No, seriously.
On Nov. 3, all Texas State Parks will offer free day-use entry for the inaugural Texas State Parks Day.
Born out of last year’s Centennial Celebration, Texas State Parks officials created the annual event to encourage Lone Star State residents and visitors to explore the outdoors.
Texas has roughly 80 state parks, including 12 in the Hill Country and many within driving distance of San Antonio, including Garner, Enchanted Rock, Lost Maples, Guadalupe River and Government Canyon.
“Any day in a Texas State Park is a good day,” Texas State Parks Director Rodney Franklin said in a statement. “I hope this continued event from our centennial celebration motivates all Texans to explore what the outdoors has to offer. You are invited to visit a park that is new to you, take a friend and try a new adventure.”
Day-use activities at Texas state parks include hiking, biking, wildlife watching, swimming, tubing and other fun, depending on the amenities of the park.
Some of the parks require reservations, especially popular ones such as Enchanted Rock. Officials note that parks will operate as they normally do, requiring reservations or passes to control the number of people on trails.
Outdoor enthusiasts are encouraged to plan ahead for Texas State Parks Day and make reservations before their favorite destination fills up.
