Six Flags Entertainment Corp.’s two San Antonio-area theme parks could end up on the auction block as it considers selling some of its 42 properties, Attractions Magazine reports.

After completing a $261 million merger with rival amusement company Cedar Fair this summer, Six Flags is conducting a “comprehensive review” of its park holdings, which include both San Antonio’s Six Flags Fiesta Texas and Schlitterbahn in New Braunfels, officials said Wednesday during an earnings call.

Company officials didn’t identify which parks may be most likely to end up for sale. However, they did say the potential downsizing is to improve guest experiences while bettering the company’s profit margins and spendng its capital in a more disciplined way, Attractions Magazine reports.

Six Flags purchased Fiesta Texas from San Antonio-based insurance company USAA in October 1998. The following year, the amusement company undertook the park’s biggest expansion in its then seven-year history.

Last 2023, Fiesta Texas opened three new rides which officials said give the site more DC Comics-themed attractions than any U.S. amusement park. The park also last year unveiled plans for a two-story, state-of-the-art e-sports gaming facility.

Cedar Fair bought Schlitterbahn’s properties in New Braunfels and Galveston in 2019, and both parks, along with the Schlitterbahn name, were included in the parent company’s merger with Six Flags.
