Mikhail “Mischka” Timofeyev — the owner of Beacon Hill fixture Web House Café and Bar — has died, according to a Wednesday-morning social media post from the business.
“It is with a very heavy heart I post to let you know that Mischka, the love of my life for 24 years, and legally my husband since March 18, 2016 (my birthday), has gone to meet his maker this morning,” reads the post from Timofeyev’s spouse, Manny Castaneda.
As of press time, the post had drawn dozens of well wishes from regulars and neighbors remembering Timofeyev for his conviviality, cooking skills and friendship.
“I am paralyzed by this life-changing event, but he will forever be the love of my life!” Castaneda added. “Please pray for his eternal happiness, as he has given his heart to all of us! Mischka, I love you with all of my heart, and I look forward to being with you once again!”
The post doesn’t say what effect Timofeyev’s death will have on Web House, located at 320 Blanco Road. The business’ management wasn’t available for comment Wednesday morning on the post.
Web House launched nearly 20 years ago on the St. Mary’s Strip, but relocated to Beacon Hill, where it emerged as a popular dining, drinking and socializing spot for the north-of-downtown neighborhood.
Timofeyev — a native of Moscow who came to the United States decades ago — was known for creating the cafe’s convivial atmosphere and a menu that ranged from bar-food standbys to Russian-style pasta, dumplings and borscht.
The business owner was also active in the Beacon Hill Neighborhood Association and helped create a community pantry program to feed residents going through tough times, the Express-News reported in 2023.
