FBI offering $25,000 for info on suspect in North Texas ICE detention center ambush

The FBI is offering $25,000 for anyone who can help it find a U.S. military veteran suspected of participating in a coordinated ambush of local and federal officers at a North Texas U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention facility over the weekend.

Benjamin Hanil Song, 32, is the 12th suspect federal authorities said may be involved in a July Fourth attack on the Prairieland Detention Center in Alvarado, 30 miles south of Fort Worth.

A former U.S. Marine Corps reservist, Song is accused of purchasing four of the guns found in connection with the shooting, which struck two federal officers and one Alvarado cop, according to the U.S. Justice Department. He’s charged with three counts of attempted murder of a federal officer and three counts of discharging a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence.

FBI officials describe Song as a 5-foot-6 Asian male with black hair and brown eyes who weighs 150 pounds.

Authorities added that Song should be considered armed and dangerous.

Federal prosecutors allege Song and 11 comrades dressed in black military fatigues executed an ambush at the Prairieland Detention Center at around 10 p.m. on the July Fourth.

The group first began firing fireworks at the facility before two of the assailants broke off and began tagging vehicles with anti-ICE slogans, according the federal authorities. Another suspect then began firing at officers from a nearby wooded area, prosecutors said.

The alleged attack at the Prairieland Detention Center came days before a Michigan man opened fire at a Border Patrol checkpoint in McAllen.

The FBI urged those with information about Song’s whereabouts to contact local law enforcement officials or their FBI office. People also may leave anonymous tips via the FBI’s website.
