A judge on Friday ordered the unsealing of records in Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s divorce case, the Texas Newsroom reports.

Judge Robert Brotherton of Collin County, who’s presiding over the case, signed an order allowing the records to be made public. The move came after Paxton and his wife, state Sen. Angela Paxton — both Republicans — said they’d reached an agreement to unseal the documents.

Media outlets including the Texas Tribune and ProPublica had filed suit to open the records. An attorney for the outlets told the Texas Newsroom that the judge’s decision constituted a victory for public transparency.

The documents show the Paxtons have entered mediation and that Angela Paxton asked her husband to turn over records related to the case, according to the Texas Newsroom.

Although records indicate the Paxtons’ blind trust gave them each $20,000 to cover attorney’s costs, there were no additional details about the pair’s financial situation or the alleged extramarital affair by Ken Paxton that prompted his wife to file for divorce.

The case comes at a sensitive time for the already scandal-plagued Ken Paxton. He’s running to unseat U.S. Rep. John Cornyn in the Republican primary, which is shaping up to be tight race.
