Roughly four years after making its San Antonio debut, fast-casual chain Hawaiian Bros Island Grill is poised to launch a third location here, this one by the UT-San Antonio campus.

The Kansas City, Missouri-based chain will start construction on a unit at 5746 UTSA Blvd. in July with plans to complete work in late November, according to a filing with Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. The company will spend more than $1.2 million developing the freestanding 2,900-square-foot eatery, records show.

Hawaiian Bros’ menu is focused on island-style comfort food such as slow-roasted pulled pork and teriyaki chicken served with traditional sides such as rice, macaroni salad and seasoned vegetables. It also offers wraps and salads featuring its grilled-meat specialties along with Spam musubi, a Hawaiian snack featuring a slice of the grilled processed meat on a block of rice wrapped with nori seaweed.

The chain’s other two San Antonio stores are a freestanding unit in Live Oak at 7929 Pat Booker Road and an operation inside Lombrano Food Hall at 427 Lombrano St. It has roughly 80 restaurants nationwide, nearly 30 of them in Texas.
