San Antonio firefighters recovered a body Friday from San Pedro Creek as rain continued to inundate the Alamo City.

First responders were called to the area around Furnish Avenue and South San Marcos Street at around 9:30 a.m. on Friday, KSAT reports.

As authorities arrived at the scene southwest of downtown, they saw a man floating in San Pedro Creek and performed a high-water rescue to recover the body, according to the station. Even so, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the manner of death, while SAPD’s own investigation is ongoing.

The death came as a severe flash flood warning in Bexar County closed 36 roads Friday and caused Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City ISD to cancel classes.

A flood watch remains in effect until 9 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.
