Is it OK to call Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s U.S. Senate campaign tour a “shitshow?” Because it’s sure starting to look like one.
Last month in Fort Worth, Paxton fled a press conference called by his own team after reporters asked him about his eyebrow-raising history of real-estate deals and allegations that he engaged in voter fraud. Then, two days later, as Paxton tried to gain support from fellow Republicans in Washington, D.C., a mobile billboard highlighting his extensive political scandals circled the building where the fundraiser took place.
In the latest gaffe on Paxton’s “Texas Promise” tour, he was double-booked with an emo show Wednesday at Houston music venue White Oak Music Hall, Texas Monthly reports. Apparently, the overlap didn’t do the GOP culture warrior any favors.
“Fuck that person,” Raegan Gordon, the drummer-vocalist for the band Leisure Hour reportedly said about Paxton between songs. “We didn’t know about that shit, but I’m definitely going to use my platform to say that that was lame and stupid and fucking bullshit.”
Meanwhile, Paxton delivered what Texas Monthly described as a considerably less emphatic performance. Although some of his opening speakers could be accused of being “emo” in their own right, the AG spoke for less than 10 minutes and proved about as riveting as a workplace training video.
“As he ambled around the stage, microphone in hand, Texas’s top cop gave the impression of a genial, slightly dull talk show host,” according to Texas Monthy’s account.
San Antonians eager to see Paxton’s rhetorical fireworks — or lack thereof — may want to pencil in his Saturday, Aug. 8, appearance at the Republican-themed bar the Angry Elephant. No word on whether the venue will be providing espresso shots to keep attendees awake.
