The battle of the food trucks occurs year-round in San Antonio, but if you want to witness mobile kitchens really go head to head, stop by the sixth annual Twisted Taco Truck Throwdown (10 10th St., 210-725-5477).

Happening Saturday May 7 from 4 p.m. until midnight, approximately 21 of the best taco trucks around town will face off in showcase of their culinary abilities at the VFW Post 76, and the competition is bound to be fierce.

From 4-8 p.m., participating trucks will serve up their unique versions of tacos al pastor for $1, alongside another of their signature menu items in hopes of being crowned the ultimate Grand Champion. In another category, the Freestyle award will be chosen upon contestants' taco submission of their choice. Both titles will be scored and decided by local celebrity judges, and a final People's Choice winner will be determined through text-in voting throughout the event.

The fun continues doesn't stop there, though. After 8 p.m. trucks' extensive menus will open up to all attendees, and local bands Finding Friday and Los #3 Dinners will be curating groovy tunes in accompaniment to the vast taco expanse.

The event is free and family-friendly for all S.A. foodies, and the Twisted Taco Truck Throwdown is now calling all taco trucks to come out and take part in the competition. Participating vendors will pay a $140 entry fee (covering SA Metro Health and San Antonio Fire Department permits) and will get to keep all of the proceeds made during the event. Additionally, trucks that register before March 10 or that are involved in the Downtown Food Truck program will receive a discounted entry fee. Interested mobile kitchens will need to contact Kimberly Arellano at (210)-725-5477 or Kimberly.arellano@att.net to fill out an application in joining the competition.

The VFW Post 76 is the the oldest post in the state of Texas, and a portion of the proceeds from the Twisted Taco Truck Throwdown will go toward the VFW 76 Veteran Relief Fund in providing assistance to veterans in need.

Good food, good fun and all for a good cause.
