Spurs play-by-play announcer Jacob Tobey has left the NBA franchise after allegations of an affair involving the sister of a Spurs player surfaced and caught fire on social media, Front Office Sports reports.
Tobey’s girlfriend accessed his Instagram account to allege he cheated with Spurs player Lindy Waters III’s sister, Loren, according to Front Office Sports. The since-removed post also included what appear to be photo booth images of Tobey and Loren Waters kissing.
“This is my girlfriend of six years. But I cheated on her with Loren Waters,” the post stated. “So feel free to continue following me if you really think I’m a good guy because I’m not.”
Other social media accounts shared screenshots of the post before it was taken down.
Later, Tobey’s girlfriend stated in a post on own Instagram page that she was responsible for the post on his account and confirmed that their relationship is over, according to Front Office Sports. That post has also been removed.
Tobey has been the Spurs play-by-play announcer since 2024 and was included on Front Office Sports’ 2025 list of rising young play-by-play broadcasters. Prior to his role with the Silver and Black, he worked at 9NEWS in Denver and has called play-by-play action for Fox Sports and the Pac-12 Network.
Neither Tobey nor the Spurs has addressed the situation publicly. The Current reached out to both, and neither responded by press time.
