Just in case anyone wonders how hard the San Antonio Spurs are leaning into their reputation as an international team, the franchise is holding watch parties in Mexico and France for Game 5 of the NBA Finals.
Mirrored after the Spurs’ classic San Antonio watch parties, which take place at the Rock at La Cantera and the Frost Bank Center, Saturday’s free events will allow fans in Paris and Mexico City to root for the Silver and Black as they try to avoid elimination in against the New York Knicks.
“Whether our fans are gathering in France, China, Mexico, Texas or around the world, we’re eager to welcome them into our Spurs family,” Spurs CEO RC Buford said in a statement. “These watch parties create shared experiences that bring our global fanbase closer together and reflect the values of connection, community and belonging that have always defined our organization.”
Beyond current Spurs star Victor Wembanyama, other notable French players have worn the Spurs uniform, including Hall of Famer Tony Parker, who won four NBA championships, and Boris Diaw, a member of the Spurs’ 2014 championship team. The team also played two regular-season matchups against the Indiana Pacers in Paris last year.
Due to San Antonio’s proximity and deep cultural ties to Mexico, the team also has a considerable south-of-the-border fan base, and it’s played multiple exhibition and regular-season games there over the years. Indeed, the Spurs have played more games in Mexico than any other NBA franchise.
French fans can join the Paris watch party at Belushi’s at Paris Canal, 159 Rue de Crimee, while fans south of the border can enjoy the Mexico City festivities at Pinche Gringo BBQ Warehouse, Calle Lago Iseo 296.
Spurs fans in each market can visit the team’s official playoff page and select their home market on the top left for more details and to RSVP to their local party. The franchise also backs the NBA’s official China watch party at NBA HoopPark, K11 Mall in Shenzhen.
