Rookie Spurs guard Stephon Castle was pranked by his own teammates, who thought it would be funny to take the wheels off his car following the team’s 126-116 win over the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday.

The practical joke was captured on video by Spurs forward Devin Vassell, who posted a clip of Castle’s reaction on Instagram. Although the clip has since been removed, it’s still circulating on social media.

Teammate De’Aaron Fox told TV station KENS5 that while pranks on rookies are common in the NBA, he’s never seen a newcomer have his tires stolen. Even so, Fox joked that the extreme measure was necessary since Castle hasn’t been pulling his weight off the court.

“Steph does absolutely nothing,” Fox told the CBS affiliate. “So, you deserved it, for sure. Something needed to happen. I’m like, does he bring anything to the plane? Does he bring any food, snacks? The least he could do is pass the shoes out at shootaround.”

Meanwhile, Jeremy Sochan, who called the prank “hilarious,” speculated to the Express-News that fellow Spurs forward Sandro Mamukelashvili might be behind the gag.

While Castle may not be supplying veteran players with snacks, he’s certainly contributing on the court. He’s averaging 13 points, three rebounds and three assists a game, which has led him to be the top contender to win Rookie of the Year.

The Spurs will next take on the Charlotte Hornets at 7 p.m. Friday at the Frost Bank Center.
