Macbeth is one of the bloodiest works attributed to William Shakespeare, second only to Titus Andronicus. However, the former is more refined and as psychologically disturbing as it is gory.
The play, being presented this Thursday at Charline McCombs Empire Theatre, offers a study of unchecked ambition and its darkest consequences, including deceit, murder, misguided schemes, tyrannical behavior and the inevitable collapse of a royal house rotting from the inside out.
Sounds like a suitable bedtime story for the new millennium.
For this adaptation by the award-winning Out of Chaos theatre company, two actors will undertake the juggling act of playing more than 20 roles.
$29-$79, 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, Charline McCombs Empire Theatre, 226 N. St. Mary’s St., (210) 226-5700, us.atgtickets.com. — Anjali Gupta
