The dark comedy Chicago, which debuted in 1975, is one of those musicals that seems like it’s been around forever yet never loses its sense of sparkle.

After all, the ongoing 1996 revival of the classic is the longest-running show currently on Broadway. It doesn’t hurt that a 2002 Academy Award-winning film adaptation introduced the infectious songs and memorably devious characters to a whole new generation. Nor does it hurt that its shining satire of corruption seems to resonate as much today as it ever did.

Chicago will bring its razzle dazzle into the Majestic Theatre Friday and Saturday. The three-show run is part of the Broadway in San Antonio series.

For the uninitiated, the play follows the shady exploits of a pair of murderous antiheroes, vaudeville star Velma Kelly and chorus girl Roxie Hart, as they compete for fame and a chance at acquittal in the Roaring Twenties Windy City.

$52.65-$312, 7:30 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Majestic Theatre, 224 E. Houston St., (210) 226-3333, majesticempire.com.
