The bill would reduce low-level weed possession to an offense that carries a fine but no jail time.

The proposal, which received unanimous committee approval, also would let people expunge pot arrests from their records.

‘Texas is the biggest untapped market, so every [medical cannabis supplier] is going to be looking at this and doing the calculations to see whether the numbers make sense to apply,’ one cannabis industry official said.
