Austin-based coffee chain El Tigre Coffee Roasters will make its San Antonio debut next month with the opening of a shop in St. Paul Square, company officials said.

El Tigre has taken over the space at 123 Heiman St. that previously housed Vice Versa Coffee & Music. Vice Versa shut down last spring after dealing with expensive air-conditioner repairs and other financial hurdles.

The new business will feature the brand’s global assortment of roasted coffee beans, a selection of iced and hot beverages and ample indoor seating. It also will offer light breakfast and lunch service. The El Tigre team said it will reveal a full menu closer to its grand opening, although it hasn’t yet set a date for the official launch.

The St. Paul Square location is somewhat of a homecoming for El Tigre founder Tatanka Guerrero. With roots in San Antonio, the restaurateur and Dreamers & Doers Hospitality founder teased more to come in an online statement about the opening.

“We can’t wait to get to know all of our new downtown Eastside neighbors, including all the bakers, pastry chefs, and farmers, and producers as we look to source as much as we can locally,” Guerrero added. “Plus, I have some new culinary concepts in the works for San Antonio that will open soon, so there is much to be excited about.”

El Tigre’s soft-opening hours are 7 a.m.-4 p.m. daily.
