The Dallas-based venture plans to develop a 2,000-square-foot location at the Shops at La Cantera, a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation shows. Work on the $300,000 store, 15900 La Cantera Parkway, Suite 20100, will begin this summer with an expected Oct. 29 completion date, documents show. Officials with La La Land Kind Cafe were unavailable for immediate comment on the filing.
La La Land Kind Cafes offer a limited menu of lattes, teas, coolers and food such as avocado, hazelnut and truffle-burrata toasts in a bright, uplifting environment, according to the chain’s website. It operates more than 20 stores, which also stock apparel, drinkware and accessories.
Paid internships at La La Land stores are designed to help youth transition from foster care into a secure and productive adulthood. The business and its charitable foundation provide participants in the program not just with job training but housing assistance, mental health services, financial literacy and adult life skills, founder Francois Reihani told financial magazine Forbes.
“You can walk around any La La Land store and you won’t see one banner about what we do,” Reihani said of its work with foster youth. “We’re not shoving it in anyone’s face. We don’t use it as marketing. It has to be at the core of the company.”
Dedicated youth directors and store managers at the chain work with interns over a 10-week program, according to Forbes. Ideally, graduates are able to transition to jobs at La La Land stores or other work opportunities, learning along the way, Reihani told the publication.
“These kids have already been through so much failure in life, we never want to be another one,” he said.
