Another San Antonio beverage-based drive-thru chain is shuttering its doors amid the global economic slowdown.

CosMc’s – a McDonald’s-owned space-themed drive-thru chain that focused on non-alcoholic gourmet drinks and snack foods – will close all eight of it’s locations by the end of June, company officials said in a statement.

The chain opened two San Antonio locations last year at 12360 FM 1957 and 8726 Potranco. However, McDonald’s sales last quarter didn’t quite meet expectations, officials said.

“What started as a belief that McDonald’s had the right to win the fast-growing beverage space quickly came to life as a multi-location, small format, beverage-focussed concept,” the brand said in a statement. “It allowed us to test new, bold flavors and different technologies and processes – without impacting the existing McDonald’s experience for customers and crew.”

Indeed, McDonald’s same-store sales dropped 3.6% from last year – the steepest decline for the fast-food giant since 2020. Meanwhile, McDonald’s overall revenue fell 3% during the first fiscal quarter of this year.

The closure of CosMc’s comes after another beverage-oriented chain, Utah-based Fiiz Drinks, closed its Broadway location after operating for about a year.
