The century-old MilkShake Factory chain’s first San Antonio location will begin serving up the sweet stuff on Saturday, June 13.

The Pittsburgh-based brand known for its handspun, small-batch milkshakes and premium chocolates has had its sights on the Alamo City market for about a year, and is finally making its debut. The new store, only the second in Texas, is located at 21025 US Highway 281 North, Suite 1314, in the Stone Oak neighborhood.

The store will hold a grand opening from noon to 4 p.m. and will feature a buy-one, get-one-free deal on all shakes, sundaes and molten cups. The first 100 guests will also receive free MilkShake Factory T-shirts.

The chain first announced its plans for a San Antonio location last May. The store, located in the Stone Ridge Market shopping area, is owned and operated by local franchisees Anahi Pineda and Sergio Leyva.

“San Antonio is a warm, energetic city, and there is something about a handspun milkshake that feels like the perfect fit here,” Leyva said in an emailed statement. “MilkShake Factory takes a classic treat and makes it feel special through housemade ice cream, premium ingredients and an experience that guests can enjoy year-round.”

The Pittsburgh-based Edwards family founded MilkShake Factory in 1914 as a soda fountain and chocolate shop. Today, the chain’s menu features a wide variety of milkshake and sundae flavors, all made with the company’s signature ice cream, crafted in-store daily.
