Italian eatery Sorrento Ristorante & Pizzeria is vacating its longtime Alamo Heights home for new digs on Northwest Military Highway, according to an online post from its owners.
In a Saturday Facebook post, Sorrento’s ownership thanked Alamo Heights customers and said the restaurant will relocate to 2311 Northwest Military sometime in October. The new spot is near Thirsty Horse Dance Hall & Saloon and the satellite location of Mr. Juicy.
“For every celebration, every quiet weeknight dinner, every “The usual, please,” and every face we’ve come to know and love over the years, we are endlessly grateful,” the message said. “This community gave Sorrento a home, and that means more to us than we can put into words.”
The owners didn’t say what prompted the move, although they said customers can expect the same recipes, service and family feel.
“Nothing about who we are is changing, just where you’ll find us,” they added.
The late Gino Ciccone founded the restaurant in 2001 a couple of years after relocating to San Antonio to help establish Naples Pizza, according to the Express-News. The restaurant, known for its classic takes on Italian-American fare and New York-style pizza is now owned and operated by Ciccone’s daughter Margherita.
Although the restaurant has undergone expansions and renovations, it’s occupied the same Alamo Heights shopfront at 5146 Broadway since it opened.
