Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones will join seven other panelists on a new episode of the Emmy-nominated series Breaking the Deadlock, which premieres at 8 p.m. this Tuesday on San Antonio PBS affiliate KLRN.

In the episode, UC Davis law professor Aaron Tang asks panelists to talk through a series of thorny dilemmas centered around AI and the development of data centers, according to details shared by KLRN. For example, is it acceptable for a town to use AI surveillance cameras to identify people who might commit a crime but haven’t yet?

The episode — “AI: Who’s in Control?” — airs as the local, state and federal governments deliberate the extent to which they should regulate AI. Ordinary Americans are also grappling with the industry’s impact, from data centers sprouting up in their backyards to the potential job losses the new technology will bring.

Breaking the Deadlock, produced by Boston PBS member station WGBH, is intended to offer a framework for people of divergent beliefs to find common ground for discussing some of the day’s most pressing topics.

In addition to airing Tuesday, the latest episode will stream live on KLRN’s website. Previous episodes are also free on demand at the site or via the PBS App.
