Good barbecue takes time. Apparently, so does opening a barbecue joint.
After teasing brisket lovers with plans for a San Antonio outpost since 2021, the Terry Black’s Barbecue chain has finally set a date for its debut in the city: Tuesday, Nov. 17.
The restaurant, located at 2102 Broadway near Pearl, will be the eighth location for Terry Black’s, an Austin-based chain established in 2014 by the children of its namesake Texas pitmaster.
“San Antonio is one of the state’s most celebrated food cities, [so] we are thrilled to add our family recipes, time-honored smoking techniques, and genuine Texas hospitality to this city,” Mike Black, co-founder of Black Family Hospitality, said in an emailed statement. “We look forward to welcoming San Antonio locals and visitors to gather over great barbecue.”
Black Family Hospitality is also developing a 40-room boutique hotel and 9,800-square-foot bathhouse on the property. The hotel, planned for a 2028 completion, is expected to operate independently of the barbecue spot.
The San Antonio restaurant will offer the full Terry Black’s menu, including slow-smoked brisket and pork ribs, sides such as potato salad and macaroni and cheese, and desserts including banana pudding.
In addition to dine-in service, the restaurant will begin accepting OpenTable reservations and catering requests and offering Uber Eats delivery on Nov. 17, according to officials with the chain. Guests also will be able to book an hour-long behind-the-scenes experience featuring a private tour of the pits, a meeting with the pitmasters and a meal at a reserved table.
The San Antonio Terry Black’s will operate 10:30 a.m.-9:30 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 10:30 a.m.-10 p.m. Friday through Saturday.
