Through Dec. 9, hungry San Antonians can give back to the community by dropping by their favorite local Whataburger.
Visitors to any Bexar County Whataburger location can participate in the Alamo City-based chain’s Blessing Tree gift drive by making monetary donations, giving unwrapped toys or obtaining a virtual Blessing Tree tag, which allows them to sponsor a person in need.
The visitor then may notify the cashier of their donation and receive a coupon for a free burger, according to the company.
The donations go toward veterans, children and people experiencing homelessness in nonprofit group Endeavors’ Veteran and Community Housing and Supportive Services programs, according to a statement from Whataburger.
Each Blessing Tree tag at Whataburger includes a holiday wishlist for an Endeavors client, including their age, gender, clothing and shoe sizes. Endeavors recommends sponsors use the tags as guides and spend around $70 to buy a pair of shoes, clothing and item from the wish list.
Through the Blessing Tree gift drive, Endeavors is “determined to end the cycle of homelessness and unhappy holidays,” the nonprofit said in a statement.
The Whataburger drive is part of a larger Blessing Tree initiative, which has been accepting donations, tag sponsors and unwrapped gifts for veterans, children and people experiencing homelessness since Nov. 18, according details shared by Endeavors.
San Antonians also may drop off unwrapped gifts at three locations other than Whataburger until 5 p.m. Dec. 9:
- Endeavors Headquarters: 6363 De Zavala Road
- Haverty’s Furniture: 13141 Interstate 10
- Haverty’s Furniture: 14555 Forum Parkway
