New live-music venue Rah! Rah! Room will make its debut the weekend of Dec. 20-21, almost a year after it was first teased by the owners of sister nightspot Bang Bang Bar.

Rah! Rah! Room’s Friday and Saturday grand opening weekend will feature a full schedule of rock concerts intended to showcase the space as a new epicenter for live music.

The venue is the latest venture of Girl in a Coma drummer Phanie Diaz and business partner Jamie Hoppe, who opened Bang Bang together in 2016. In addition to Rah! Rah! and Bang Bang, the duo runs the decidedly less alliterative — but no less boozy — Bar America.

Hoppe also operates The Dogfather, the gourmet hot dog joint adjacent Bang Bang and Gibson’s Tavern & Tequileria, a neighborhood dive in Los Angeles Heights.

Rah! Rah! Room, located at 6322 San Pedro Avenue, is taking over the space that once housed The Rec Room, right across the street from Bang Bang Bar. The new venue will feature a large outdoor space with two bars and a capacity of 1,000. Inside, a 300-capacity space with its own bar will host smaller live shows.

Diaz says the 5,500-square-foot music club will book both national and local acts.

“We will have live music on both stages as well as [being] available for festivals, private parties and theater,” she added.

Rah! Rah! Room is kicking off its grand opening weekend Friday, Dec. 20, with High N Dry, a Def Leppard tribute act. New Eighties, a band covering a selection of ’80s bops, will round out the bill. Tickets run $10 presale and $12 at the door, and  they’re available in advance through Eventbrite.

The party continues the following day with a performance by Diaz’s Girl in a Coma, an indie-rock trio that enjoys a local and international following. Corpus Christi band Indio will open the evening with a blend of Tejano music and rock. Tickets to that show run $20 presale and $25 at the door. They’re also available via Eventbrite.

Both concerts will be held, rain or shine, on the venue’s outdoor stage, according to Diaz.
