Hot Joy’s tiki-centric cocktails and new, Korean-inspired menu are taking over the Paper Tiger — before “anime punk weirdos” Peelander-Z take the stage — on Thursday, May 16.

From 6 to 8 p.m., Hot Joy chef John Pilpot will give a sneak peek of the restaurant’s new Korean-inspired dishes (like a bulgogi that features pastor), while the restaurant’s food truck serves up its current menu on-site. The tiki drink menu is currently being finalized, but it’s a safe bet that things are going to get weird.

Peelander-Z has previously played live shows at Hot Joy, but “we thought it would be fun to take a Hot Joy takeover there,” said Chad Carey of Empty Stomach Group. “If you like [Hot Joy’s] weirdo drinks, and you’ve ever dreamed of eating stinky chicken wings while listening to Peelander-Z, then this is a dream come true.”

The menu at Hot Joy has always featured Korean foods, but it can be a polarizing experience for those unfamiliar with the cuisine, Carey said.

“There’s a lot of funky stuff and fermented stuff in Korean food… but John has thought a lot about how to make it [accessible], so we’re going to give it a shot,” he said.

GA advanced tickets for Peelander-Z cost $5, while day-of tickets will cost $12 at the door. To purchase tickets, click here.
