Thai Cafe, a fixture of San Antonio’s dining scene for 27 years, will close its doors in the next few months, the restaurant announced on social media.
The eatery has called 11318 Perrin Beitel Road home since 1998, when sisters Lek and Chim first opened the doors to serve San Antonio customers authentic and affordable Central Thai food. Primary ownership eventually went to Lek’s two daughters, Alissa and Annmarie.
“After 27 meaningful years, it is with heartfelt emotion that we share the following news: Thai Cafe will be closing in the coming months,” the owners wrote in a statement posted to Facebook.
The restaurant hasn’t yet set a final date of operation. However, the announcement will come soon, according to the post.
“We hope you’ll stay connected with us for details,” the message continued, inviting customers to follow updates as the closure approaches.
Just the same, the Current reached out to Thai Cafe for confirmation on its official last day of service.
Referencing Thai Cafe’s family-owned legacy in the closure announcement, Lek wrote, “When I first opened Thai Cafe with my sister in 1998, my daughters were just five and two years old. They grew up within these walls — folding napkins, doing homework at the corner table, learning the meaning of hard work and hospitality, surrounded by the aromas of Thai cooking and the rhythm of dinner rushes.”
In a true full-circle moment, Lek noted that her eldest daughter now “brings her own children here,” while the youngest daughter “has led our kitchen with pride and heart since 2015.”
Lek added that she’s preparing for retirement, explaining that she’s looking forward to slowing down and spending more time with her grandchildren.
“Perhaps this isn’t goodbye forever,” she said. “My youngest daughter dreams of continuing the Thai Cafe spirit through a food truck in the future.”
